Two Laws: One Big Spirit
05 August – 10 October 2004
Two Laws: One Big Spirit presented a series of paintings completed by two artists while living in Northern Australia. Rusty Peters is an Aboriginal elder of the Gija clan (Eastern Kimberley), whilst Peter Adsett is a New Zealand Pakeha (from Gisborne) who lived in Australia from 1982-2002. The exhibition operated as a unique cross-cultural dialogue, where through the shared language of painting, these two artists of disparate aesthetic and cultural traditions were able to occupy a space beyond social interaction and verbal language.
This exhibition was staged concurrently with Gordon Walters: Prints + Design.
